PTE Academic is the first entirely computer-based English language test for international study and immigration, accepted worldwide. Powered by AI technology, it offers a fast and convenient testing solution without human bias.
The test assesses the four language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. It lasts approximately 3 hours and provides a score based on the GSE (Global Scale of English).
PTE Academic scores are accepted by thousands of institutions and are approved for all UK, Australian, and New Zealand visa and immigration categories. Test sessions can be scheduled up to 24 hours in advance, 365 days a year.
To complete the test, candidates must attend a secure Pearson test center, where they will use a computer and headset to listen to, read, and respond to questions.
During the three-hour test session, there are three main parts:
An optional 10-minute break is provided between the Reading and Listening sections. The test includes twenty different question formats, ranging from multiple-choice questions to essay writing and interpreting information.
Test takers will answer between 71 and 83 items, with the score for each item contributing to the overall score. The score range is 10–90 points, and the overall score reflects performance across all test items, which consist of instructions, questions, prompts, answer opportunities, and scoring rules.
